The Hakkoda Gourd Line gets its name from its gourd-like shape. It is a wellmaintained walking trail that can be easily enjoyed in casual footwear such as sneakers.
Wetlands are scattered along the route, where a wide variety of alpine plants grow densely, creating what feels like a vast natural bonsai garden.

This trail offers two options:

  • 1.0 km course that takes approximately 30 minutes, and
  • 1.8 km course that takes approximately 60 minutes.

With gentle elevation changes (except for a few sections), this course can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, including families.
During the peak autumn foliage season, the view of grassy autumn leaves from the wetland observation deck is truly breathtaking.

In summer, the trail is well maintained and easy to walk, making it ideal for family trekking with children.
However, as the walk can take some time, we recommend wearing comfortable, well-broken-in walking shoes.

Mt. Kenashi refers collectively to Kami-Kenashi and Shimo-Kenashi, which differ in elevation.
The Kenashi Paradise Line is a downhill-oriented trekking route that runs through the central area of Kenashi-tai, making it suitable even for beginner hikers.
From spring through autumn, hikers can enjoy changing mountain scenery and quietly blooming alpine plants along the trail.
In particular, the view from the stairway descending from Kami-Kenashi-tai to Shimo-Kenashi-tai during the autumn foliage season is spectacular.
